Ok, so this one can be used for beauty purposes, but my review focuses more on pain issues I had, but I did get some results I liked overall in terms of my skin.
So I'm a pretty skeptical person by nature and read more into facts than magical situations, I don't believe in things easily, on the other hand, my mother loves the idea of Chinese medicine and weird remedies that are said to help but that lack scientific studies to back it up. So this venture of mine all started when I was about 12 years old, my mom would get her Asian medicine man to come over and give us massages every now and then. I would get many headaches from a young age that may or may not have been related to my neck, so my mother always wanted to try different things on me to see if anything would help. He would ask me if I ever went to bed with my hair wet and that would be a cause for my headaches and I remember thinking to myself my mother and this man were nuts, and that I would go along with whatever my mom wanted me to do but that I basically didn't really believe in any of it...A couple years down the line, he became certified for acupuncture in Canada (he was certified in China but needed to go through the process here) and my mother began doing acupuncture. She praised it and started forcing me into it, she would always be paying for all this stuff for me so I figured I would try it. I HATE needles, lots of people do, so my first concern was, is this going to hurt. My mom assured me it wouldn't, so I tried it. Now, it needs to be said that most places have techniques of inserting the needles so you don't feel them, this man was not a practitioner of this method as the session was the most unpleasant thing I had gone through in a long time, he wasn't placing the needles ever so delicately into the surface of my skin, he was jamming them in there as if he was trying to wrestle a nerve to the death, needless to say, I was super upset with my mom for making it seem like it was going to be soothing and told her then and there that I didn't believe in any of her magic voodoo crap and that she wasn't going to fool me into it ever again. She kept seeing him for years and kept telling me how wonderful she felt, and I would laugh it off and tell her to enjoy her la la land visits and keep me out of it.
A couple years later, I started getting extremely annoying tension in my neck and shoulders, and they were causing horrible headaches and I literally went years suffering through these pains, I'm not sure if it was stress related, hormone related, posture or what, but it was getting to be too much, so my mom talked me into going to see her Chinese medicine man again, and even though I had bad memories of it, I figured I would give it a shot since I was really starting to be miserable from my muscle pains and headaches. Long story short, I dedicated 1 month going 2 times a week (sometimes 3 times) for a total of 10 sessions and was very surprised at the results. I'm not going to lie, I would get stressed a bit before and during the session since the damn needles were again jammed in pretty hard, but i gave it a chance, and my neck pains a tension headaches went down significantly. I still get tension headaches 1- 2 times a month, but they used to be every second day, and some months all month long so it was an amazing improvement. I have no idea how acupuncture works, but my theory is that pain is brought to us by our nerves deep down in the skin tissues, and somehow acupuncture dissolves the pain emitted from the nerves by redirecting the, dare I say, "energy". Frankly, I have no idea how this works, but what it comes down to is this, if it works, that 's all I need to know in order for me to keep doing it. In my case it really wasn't a psychological thing, because I didn't even believe it was going to work until I started to feel less pain after about the 3rd or 4th visit, then I started taking it more seriously and it worked out nicely for me. Now, I have heard of people that don't get results out of it, I'm not sure what causes it to work, or not work, but for me, it worked and I'm a believer of this practice now. I noticed overall better health in terms of healthier skin, and I wasn't retaining water and I overall felt pretty good. I haven't been to see him in over 6 months (which is bad, you're supposed to maintain by going at least once a month after your initial intensive 10 visits) but I have not gone back to the pain I used to have. So basically what I'm saying is, this worked for me, and hopefully it could work for you too.
